In this two-hour workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore the art of slow stitching - sashiko - together with Yiran. During the session, you will gain knowledge about the cultural background and history of sashiko in Japan, as well as its practice in modern society. You will also have the chance to practice stitching four different sashiko patterns, including three small pieces that can be turned into coasters, and one tote bag.

All materials for the workshop will be provided and include:

1 x sashiko needle
1 x skein of 30m sashiko thread
3 x sashiko sampler
1 x round sashiko placemat

YICRAFTS is a North West London studio that focuses on traditional handcrafts and cuisine from China’s minority ethnicities. The founder, Yiran, is a member of the Bai ethnic minority. Her studio promotes intercultural sharing and aims to introduce unique customs, traditions, and practices of her home province.
