Hanten, a traditional Japanese housecoat, originated in the 18th century as durable outerwear for workmen. Its still widely worn today and with its padded structure, offers both warmth and comfort, making it perfect for indoor lounging or outerwear. 

The artisans behind Kuwano honour traditional Japanese values by creating textiles and garments that showcase meticulous craftsmanship. Each product is handmade* - locally dyed, woven, cut, and sewn in their factory then finished with the distinctive Kuwano mark.

About Kuwano

Three Generations of weaving in Kurume. The Kuwano family creates textiles and garments that honour traditional Japanese values. Each of their products are made from scratch: dyed locally, woven, cut, sewn in their factory, and finished with their signature Kuwano mark.

Hanten are meant to be worn over clothing and sweaters - size up for a roomier fit

Care Instructions

Garments can be spot-cleaned simply with a damp cloth

Washing: Do not use bleach. Ideally, hand wash in lukewarm water (30°C/86°F) with mild detergent without scrubbing or twisting. Rinse gently.

Drying: Press gently to remove excess water. Spin in a washing machine for 3 minutes. Lay flat on a towel to absorb water, flipping
and replacing the towel as needed. Do not use a dryer. Hang and air-dry in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight to retain vibrant colours.

Storing: Keep your hanten in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
