Culture by Bike
City cycling is about discovery and this month we took a 'slow' ride down to the Photographers galley for a look at their current exhibition Japanese Women Photographers, From 1950s to Now
The Route
From tokyobike Shoreditch it's about a 6 km ride (roughly 25 minutes) heading southwest across the city.
The route takes you through some of London's most historic neighbourhoods - starting in Shoreditch, through Clerkenwell, past Russell Square and the leafy edges of Bloomsbury, onto Fitzrovia and finally into Soho. It's a relaxed ride, mostly on quieter backstreets, revealing a real cross-section of the city.

Japanese Women Photographers, From 1950s to Now
This is a landmark exhibition featuring 27 groundbreaking women photographers, from the 1950s right up to today. It tells the story of Japanese photography through a lens that's long been overlooked - women who ran their own studios, worked in the darkroom, and captured everything from post-war daily life to the front lines of student protests.
Spanning themes like gender and identity, motherhood, fashion, pop culture, and everyday life, the show brings together over 200 photographs, videos, installations, and rare photobooks across the whole gallery. Some of the artists are internationally renowned; others are only now getting the recognition they deserve.
Featured artists include HARA Mikiko, HIROMIX, ISHIUCHI Miyako, KAWAUCHI Rinko, NINAGAWA Mika, SHIGA Lieko, YANAGI Miwa, and many more - 27 in total, spanning generations.
And right outside the gallery in the Soho Photography Quarter, you can see NINAGAWA Mika's huge, vividly colourful photographs of flowers and goldfish - completely free, day or night.
