Life on Two Wheels

In our Life on Two Wheels roundup, we speak with creatives about their work, inspiration, and everyday life with tokyobike.

Takako Copleland

"It's time without the usual distractions of daily life, there's an opportunity to reflect and the chance to take in what surrounds us."

Takako Copeland is a Japanese illustrator and print maker based in London.

Mizuyo Yamashita

"I like the fact that I am using my body and energy directly to move this thing. It feels very similar to working with clay. I like the directness."

Mizuyo is a ceramicist and kintsugi repairer based in London and has owned a tokyobike for around 15 years. We caught up with her at her workshop in East London to chat a little about work and life.

Paz Castro

"Cycling is freedom, fun and fitness all in one! You can go and stop wherever you want, and no matter where you go, you always step off the bike feeling better."

Paz Castro is a creative consultant and content creator based in Tokyo.

David Doran

"Even though this journey is short, it’s a very important part of my day. It creates space to mentally prepare for the work that I’ll be creating that day and to organise my thoughts."

David Doran is an illustrator, artist and animator working from his studio by the water in Falmouth, Cornwall.

Mr Bingo

"I’m not gonna be so dramatic as to say that ‘cycling saved me’ but it certainly made my life better."

Mr Bingo is a London-based artist.

Shuko Oda

"Cycling is my favourite way to get around London… it also gives me the freedom and ease to explore, wandering into new corners of the city."

Shuko Oda is the executive chef and co-founder of Koya. Having grown up between London, Los Angeles and Tokyo, Koya was born from a lack of – and yearning for – genuine, high-grade Japanese cuisine in London.

Anna Devís & Daniel Rueda

"The moment we start pedalling, there’s a shift: tension fades, the breeze kicks in, and before we know it, we’re smiling again!"

Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda are Spanish photographers known for their playful, story-driven imagery shaped by their architecture background.

Ayishat Akanbi

"For many of us, cycling was our first real taste of freedom as kids. That feeling doesn’t fade with age, if anything, it deepens."

Ayishat Akanbi is a London-based stylist and writer known for merging style with substance.

Emma Maeda

“I’m glad I learned how to ride a bike”

Model and creative Emma Maeda shares her journey with cycling, from childhood memories to exploring Tokyo by bike, and how riding became an easy, carefree, and meaningful part of her life.

Noriyuki Morioka

"Feeling my point of contact with the Earth"

Writer and bookshop owner Noriyuki Morioka reflects on how cycling moves him, from everyday errands in Ginza to the simple joy of pedalling, and what riding a bike reveals about mindful living.

Mina Barrio

"I find it sooo charming visiting local markets, fishmongers, bakeries... If you ever visit Seville buy pickled goodies at Doña Aceituna on Feria Street..."

We recently caught up with Mina Barrio, a visual artist, content creator (and tokyobike rider) to talk about work, life and her current project - an online school for creatives, El Cole.

Yeye
