As the summer stretches on, so do the opportunities for weekend escapes. With a minimum of planning, the tokyobike team (and friends), set off for a quick 'ride and camp'. It's the simple pleasures, like cooking over coal and casual fireside chat that make a night under the stars such a powerful reset. So instead of heading to some far-away idyll with all the planning that can entail, we decided to load up our new e-cargo bike (tokyobike Porter) for a short ride out of the city. 

We rode along the River Lee, heading north at a pace slow enough to notice the changing scenery as the city gave way to more open countryside. After crossing the M25, we stopped at a local butcher and fishmonger to pick up food for the fire.

Once at the campsite and set up for the night, we reached for the cooler box - cold Orion beer (rarely found outside of Okinawa), the reward for our efforts. The Snow Peak Takibi grill was fired up and the Montbell Alpine cooker was tasked with cooking the rice. Nothing fancy - just three ingredients: good produce, cold beer and teamwork.

As the day drew to a close, so the warm glow of the setting sun was replaced by the hypnotic glow of the open fire.
