FAQ

Q What is the TOKYOBIKE PORTER?

The tokyobike Porter is our first e bike, designed to make cycling around town with your cargo as effortless as riding one ofour standard models. The same compact design (no longer than a regular city bike), smooth handling under load, thanks tothe independent steering, and a familiar, classic aesthetic

Q How much does it cost?

£2,800.00 / €3,400.00 (tax included). Support to purchase, in the form of tax breaks or grants, may be available depending onlocation

Q What colours are available?

Four semi-matte finishes: Blue Jade, Garage Navy, Ivory, and Mustard.

Q What height range does it suit?

It's a 'one-size fits most' bike recommended for riders approximately 155–185 cm tall.

Q How heavy is it?

22.5 kg including the front carrier and battery.

Q What gears does it have?

Shimano 3-speed internal hub (front gear 46T). Internal gears need very little maintenance. Important: always shift withoutpedalling — while stationary is fine. Shifting under load can cause malfunction. Avoid pulling away in 3rd gear, which drainsthe battery faster and strains the chain

Q What brakes does it use?

Mechanical disc brakes front and rear. These deliver consistent stopping power in all weather, won’t wear the wheel rim, andstay clean in the rain.

Q What tyres does it use?

16×1.95 (front) and 20×1.95 (rear) with black/ivory sidewalls, Presta-style valves. The front and rear have differentrecommended pressures — check the tyre sidewall. Check pressure every 1–2 weeks; running low on a loaded bikesignificantly increases puncture risk

Q How does the electric assist work?

Turn on the frame-mounted battery, then press the controller button on the handlebars. No complex setup needed. Thecontroller switches between three assist modes, controls the lights, and displays ride data.

Q What are the three assist modes?

Eco, Normal, and Boost.

Q How far can it go on a full charge?

Approximately 85 km (Eco) / 70 km (Normal) / 45 km (Boost). Actual range varies with temperature, terrain, load, and ridingstyle.

Q How long does charging take?

Around 8 hours from 0–100%.

Q Can I ride it without the battery?

Yes — the bike can be ridden with the battery removed or depleted.

Q How do I extend battery life?

Charge when the battery reaches 20–30% — avoid letting it hit zero, and avoid charging above 80%. Start in a lighter gearwhen possible. Very hot or cold days will reduce range.

Q Is the battery removable?

Yes. It detaches from the frame, has a key lock for security, and can be charged on or off the bike.

Q What are the carrier dimensions?

540 mm (L) × 400 mm (W) × 70 mm (H).

Q How much weight can it carry?

The carrier is tested to 50 kg.

Q Can I fit a child seat?

Yes — we recommend Thule child seats which are compatible with the front carrier or can be mounted on the seat tube.

Q Can I adjust the saddle height easily?

Yes — a quick-release lever means no tools needed. Great for sharing between multiple riders.

Q What about handlebar height?

Handlebar height requires tools and is best handled at a bike shop.

Q Will it feel different to a normal bike?

Yes — the extra weight and electric assist change the handling. Most riders adapt within a few rides. We recommend startingin a quiet area. Test rides are available at selected tokyobike stores.

Q What comes with the PORTER?

Front carrier, front and rear lights (controlled from the handlebar unit — no separate charging), front and rear mudguards, kickstand, battery with key lock, charger, bell, and reflectors. A bicycle lock is not included.

Q Is there a more stable stand available?

Yes — it may be necessary to change the stand depending on how you intend to use the bike. Enquire with your localtokyobike store

Q Where can I buy one?

Initially the bike will only be available to pre-order at selected tokyobike stores for delivery September 2026. Full launch andwider availability will follow in 2027

Q Can it be delivered?

Pre-order bikes will only be available for collection. Shipping will be available after full launch.

Q Do I need to assemble it on arrival?

No, your bike will be fully assembled by a tokyobike mechanic prior to collection. Simply charge the battery, adjust the saddle, check tyre pressure and ride!

Q Can I collect in store?

Yes, collection in store is recommended.

Q Is financing available?

tokyobike does not offer finance but help to purchase in the form of tax breaks or grants may be available depending onlocation.

Q How should I store the bike?

Indoors, away from rain and direct sun. If kept outside, use a bike cover (tokyobike cover, size L).

Q How often should I service it?

Annual inspection recommended to check for loose bolts and wear on tyres, wires, and other components.

Q How often should I check tyre pressure?

Every 1–2 weeks. Front and rear have different recommended pressures — check the tyre sidewall.

Q Is there a manufacturer’s warranty?

Yes, a one year warranty covering manufacturing defects. Damage from user error or accidents during use is not covered.
