This compilation traces the early spread of reggae-influenced sounds in Japan between 1976–1985, when city pop, new wave, and UK-inspired reggae blended into a uniquely local style. Rather than drawing directly from Jamaica, Japanese artists often absorbed reggae through British acts like The Police and UB40, creating playful, groove-driven tracks that sit somewhere between pop experimentation and dub influence.

Featuring rare and overlooked cuts from artists such as Miki Hirayama, Chu Kosaka, Marlene, Izumi “Mimi” Kobayashi, Miharu Koshi, Junko Yagami, and Lily, the collection highlights how these cross-cultural influences evolved into something distinctive and inventive. Previously Japan-only releases, these recordings capture an unconventional but vital chapter in the history of J-reggae and city pop fusion.
