Makoto Koizumi

Makoto Koizumi

Born in Tokyo in 1960, Koizumi is a multidisciplinary designer whose work spans architecture, furniture, and everyday objects.

He founded Koizumi Studio in 1990 and opened the Koizumi Tool Store in 2003 to showcase his designs.

Committed to tradition and craft, he collaborates with local communities across Japan and, in 2015, launched Waza to help restore traditional handicrafts.

Professor Emeritus at Musashino Art University, he has received the Mainichi Design Award (2012) and the Grand Prize at the Japan Craft Exhibition (2015).
