Persimmon x Indigo Over-Dyed Sashiko Thread (Thick) 40m

Few dyes have a history as functional as kakishibu.

Made from fermented unripe persimmons and rich in natural tannins, kakishibu has been used in Japan for centuries across textiles, timber, tableware, and architecture — valued as much for what it does as how it looks. Insect-repelling, antibacterial, water-resistant: a dye that works for its living.

On thread, it continues to work. As the tannins oxidise, they form a fine protective film across each fibre, gradually deepening in colour and shifting in texture with use. A skein fresh from the dye is only the beginning — the thread you finish a project with will not be quite the same as the one you started with.

This edition goes a step further. A second pass through natural indigo gives the kakishibu base a quietly metallic lustre — an unexpected depth where warm and cool tones meet. No two skeins land in exactly the same place.

Suited to sashiko, visible mending, hand sewing, and embroidery. Especially at home with indigo-dyed and unbleached cloth.
